I've been working on my Animal Crossing Island for a while now. I've gotten really into making fake "buildings" using some of the various items in the game. Here's a work in progress pic of one corner of my island:

The Medieval walls look great in any color but the default. Retro Transportation stops make pretty good walls as well, however it lends itself to a very specific style of building that you either love or hate. I happen to like the slight "DIY" look they bring, it fits with the rest of the game's theming. Here's another building from a different section of my island:
The one downside is that the Medieval walls are so tall it makes it hard to build any kind of roof. You can see in the first picture that the interior is completely hollow! Ruins the fun a little bit, but New Horizons is a game about building static dioramas and I'm enjoying doing exactly that. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with a lot of the space on my island (above). I think this will become a "boardwalk" area or something similar. Nearly every space has seen some kind of radical transformation, I'm sure this will be no different.
The more you urbanize an area the more important it becomes to have spaces to escape said urbanization. I tried to make sure my island has plenty of natural scenery to contrast the metal and pavement of the downtown I've constructed. Much of it is still under construction as well, trees need more time to grow and flowers need time to bloom. I'm happy with how it's come together so far.
My cat is crawling around my desk (which is 80% keyboard), lets see what she has to say:

Thank you sweetheart I love you.
Today I am listening to Billie Eilish Happier Than Ever and enjoying being completely buried by snow. Have a nice day!
